I’m Laura Hewitson - Australia’s only performing arts virtual assistant.

Why In the Wings VA Services?

We all understand the excitement that comes from being in the wings, waiting for the curtain to go up and the orchestra to start playing. We’ve experienced the rush of being sidestage during a performance, with cast and crew hurrying past, props and set pieces filling the space, and stage managers making sure everything runs smoothly. We know the comfort of having a prompter standing by, just in case.

At In the Wings VA Services, I fill that sidestage support role for your business. While the outside world may never see what goes on behind the scenes, you can be confident knowing I’m there, taking care of things for you. I keep your inbox clear, your schedule organised, your website current, and your accounts up-to-date. You get more brain space and peace, knowing you can count on me to keep the cogs turning without needing to be in the spotlight. From my home office on the fringe of metro Melbourne, I’m right there, ready to help - in the wings.

I fell in love with live theatre & performing arts when I saw my first musical - the 2002 Australian tour of Oliver!

Ever since, I have been an avid supporter of the arts. As a Virtual Assistant, I support artists, producers, production companies, and theatres, giving them more hours in their day to make theatre magic happen.

With over a decade of experience in administration and design, my varied expertise allows me to help you reclaim your valuable time, streamline daily tasks, implement innovative tech solutions, and take control of your hectic schedule. Having participated in productions both on and off the stage myself, I understand the pressures of bringing a performance to life. By working together, we can free you up to focus on the important things while I keep things ticking behind the scenes, so you can be confident and calm come opening night and beyond.

So, who am I, at heart?

I live in the Yarra Valley, on the edge of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. I’ve been married to my amazing husband, Connor, for four years, and we share our 1960s-style home with our feline fur-baby, Belle. I couldn’t live without herbal tea (blood orange is my go-to), classic movies, or my Spotify subscription! In my spare time I enjoy ballet class, going to live theatre as often as possible, creating & curating a me-made vintage wardrobe, and spending time with my large extended family.
